Norman Doerksen
Consultant/Speaker/Trainer

Norman’s family is Métis with his ancestors moving from the Red River area of Manitoba to eventually reside in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. Norman was born and raised on the unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) peoples, and the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations.
Norman has worked on numerous community and business related initiatives, with over 25 years in the public administration/services-related industry. Norman has extensive experience in executive level positions with local government, Indigenous communities, and in the private sector. He has been passionate about Indigenous governance and strategic planning initiatives. Norman facilitates a variety of Indigenous training programs and offers consultation for various industries, including health, financial & public sectors. He is honoured to support communities and organizations that wish to improve on their cultural competence and work towards reconciliation. Partnering with health providers to support cultural safety and humility standards and policy work. Experienced with Indigenous end-of-life care and respectful approaches that align with Indigenous traditions, beliefs, and values.
Norman has considerable experience in guiding natural resource initiatives and assessing responsible asset management while creating and facilitating effective conflict resolution processes. He is dedicated to building vibrant reconciliation partnerships between Indigenous Peoples and Industry. His experience is extensive in all aspects of risk management, community safety initiatives, and emergency management programs. He has also provided Indigenous procurement services to support organizations with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to engage in successful Indigenous procurement initiatives.
Norman is available to support organizations through the CCIB’s Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) program. He has years of knowledge and experience in implementing Indigenous employment and retention strategies.
With a focus on community service, Norman knows what a privilege it is to come together with many Indigenous communities. He is dedicated to working with students, ongoing learning with Elders and Indigenous knowledge-keepers to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards through hands-on projects and educational initiatives.
